Meet Oral Surgeon Dr. Kupfer

Dr. Kupfer

Dr. Kupfer is a third generation dentist who was born and raised in Germany, where his father still practices as a general dentist to this day. He met his wife Rachel through a high school exchange program and later immigrated to the U.S. in 2001 to attend Concordia University in Portland.  After graduation, he continued his college research at Oregon Health & Science University until he moved to Boston, MA to attend the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. There he developed his interest in business, leadership and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. During dental school he completed a managerial internship at Straumann USA.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery brought him back to Portland to attend Oregon Health & Science University. There, in conjunction with the Head and Neck Surgical Group at Legacy Emanuel Hospital, he developed a special interest in Orthognathic surgery, virtual surgical planning, and the application of advanced imaging in our specialty. As a resident he served on the MEDPRO Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Resident Advisory Board and was given the privilege to become a reviewer for the German Journal, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Kupfer completed a fellowship at the Carolinas Center for Oral and Facial Surgery under Dr. Brian Farrell. There he participated in hundreds of complex orthognathic and reconstructive surgeries. In addition to dentoalveolar surgery and wisdom tooth removal, the fellowship also focused on temporomandibular joint surgery, and major bone grafting with subsequent implant reconstruction.  During this time he published articles and book chapters in the areas of orthognathic surgery, facial trauma, advanced imaging, cleft care and associated cost as well as virtual surgical planning.

During his free time he enjoys spending time with his three children (Cedric, Emma, & Heidi) and his loving wife Rachel. They enjoy skiing/snowboarding, biking, water sports, good food, and spending time with friends and family.
